   Among our specialties are innovative procedures to correct or improve nearsightedness or astigmatism -- Laser Refractive Surgery (LASIK/PRK). These are brief outpatient procedures that alter the shape of and optical power of the cornea using an excimer laser.

   The effect is similar to putting a spectacle or contact lens in front of the eye while simultaneously eliminating or greatly reducing the need to wear prescription lenses. Vision begins to improve immediately after the procedure and stabilizes in a few months.

   Not everyone is a candidate for these procedures, but they are effective options for people in vocations with minimum vision standards -- such as aviation, police work, the military, professional sports, or anyone who wants to enhance their lifestyle and self-esteem.
